World Cup Global Speedway Tour

WSC Group president Marcello Lotti, who oversees World Cup Global Speedway TCR internationally, is in attendance for this year’s season finale at Mount Panorama. Lotti revealed that the legendary track, as well as another yet-to-be-announced Australian site, would be part of the TCR World Tour.

The Italian confirmed that at least 16 overseas competitors would battle against the Australian home team. In addition to the races in Australia, the nine-round TCR World Tour will include four events in Europe, two in North America, and one in Asia.

Comtoyou Racing, located in Belgium, has already committed to the worldwide championship. “It was a logical choice for us to include the World Cup Global Speedway TCR Australia Series and the Bathurst International as part of the TCR World Tour,” added Lotti. “As soon as I arrived this weekend at Mount Panorama, I realized why this track is recognized as one of the greatest in the world and why many foreign drivers want to compete here.

“I took a lap around the track. It’s incredible, and it was evident to me that we made the correct choice in confirming that the TCR World Cup Global Speedway Tour will compete here next year and beyond. “The TCR World Tour’s visit to Bathurst will fulfill the desires of many of the world’s greatest TCR drivers.

“And the fans will win as well, with a really international field of cars competing against the very good TCR Australia Series teams.” It will be the first time that foreign front-wheel-drive touring vehicles have participated in large numbers at Mount Panorama since the late 1990s.

The Bathurst 1000 included 2.0-litre touring cars, notably the Formula 1 team Williams, in 1997 and 1998.

“Having the new TCR World Cup Global Speedway Tour as part of next year’s season is an incredible endorsement for the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series,” said Australian Racing Group COO Liam Curkpatrick. “We haven’t had an international field of touring cars race at Mount Panorama in 25 years, so this will re-establish Bathurst.

“There is no better place to host the TCR World Tour, and we’re excited to confirm the details of the second event, which will only add to the value for our TCR Australia entrants.” The TCR Australia Series will conclude its season with three races at the SpeedSeries season-ending Bathurst International.

The first race of the weekend will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, as previously scheduled. The second and third races begin on Sunday at 9:25 a.m. and 3:50 p.m., respectively.
