Poland rallied back from a first-set loss to beat the United States 3-1 on Tuesday, preserving their flawless record at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and claiming the top place in Pool C in front of almost 10,000 home supporters in Katowice at World Cup Volleyball odds.

The Americans outplayed the hosts in important points of the first set at the World Cup Volleyball odds, but they couldn’t keep the defending world champions at bay for long, as Poland overcame the Americans in four sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21). As the pool’s top two teams, both are assured a spot in the Round of 16.

Poland was the first team to get three points in all three pool play matches, a feat only equaled by Italy and Serbia, who play their final pool matches on Wednesday at the World Cup Volleyball odds.

As a consequence, the Poles avenged their July semifinal loss to the Americans in the 2022 Volleyball Nations League semifinals at the World Cup Volleyball odds. On that occasion, the US prevailed in straight sets, preventing the Europeans from reaching their second consecutive VNL final.

With 20 points, Polish captain Bartosz Kurek led his team’s offense. The 34-year-old opposite, who was the team’s Most Valuable Player in the team’s World Championship triumph in 2018, collected 17 kills, one block, and two aces to be a significant element in the team’s comeback that sent their supporters home happy after a tremendous celebration at the Spodek Arena.

“We need to thank our supporters for the wonderful atmosphere they produced for our first three matches,” Kurek said. “Whether we’re winning or losing, they always generate this wonderful environment that gives me thrills every time we get to play at home.” We defeated one of the top teams in the world, but I’m sure they’ll go far in this event, and I hope we can face them again. Our next matchups will be amazing, and the spectators will have a great time watching.”

Along with Kurek, head coach Nikola Grbic received strong performances from Kamil Semeniuk and Mateusz Bieniek, who both finished with 13 points – the outside hitter had ten kills, one block, and two aces, while the middle blocker had 10 kills, two blocks, and one ace for the World Cup Volleyball odds.

American head coach John Speraw had to contend with a conspicuous absence in the match, as top setter Micah Christenson did not appear and was replaced by Josh Tuaniga. Torey Defalco and Aaron Russell led the team in scoring with 16 (14 kills, one block, and one ace) and 14 points (12 kills, one block, and one ace), respectively.

In the other pool match, Mexico earned their first victory of the tournament by defeating Bulgaria in five sets (20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 18-16). Mexican opposite Diego Gonzalez had 33 points (26 kills, three blocks, and four aces), while Bulgarian opposite Tsvetan Sokolov (24) and outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov (21) combined for 45.

Despite the remarkable achievement, the Mexicans will not advance to the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams since they only collected two points in their three pool matches. The Bulgarians at the World Cup Volleyball odds, who finished with a single point, are also eliminated.

Pool play resumes on Wednesday with six matches to complete the schedules of Pools A, E, and F. Following the qualification of all teams for the Round of 16, the eight matches for September 3-6 will be set.
